To make a piece of furniture worth mosaicking I had to graft the top of one table (60 x 50cm, 24 x 20 in) on to the legs of another. The partial dinner service was bought from a charity shop - this mosaic project needed about ten broken plates and dishes. I set some plate and dish bases into the table top to compensate for the slightly uneven surface.

The grout is a grey cement-based mixture, which has proved very resistant to all attempts to stain it with coffee, wine, salad dressing etc. back to thumbnails next in this gallery (cabinet)
