Tiles and doorways One & Two | Around Norfolk |
This sculpture of concrete inlaid with a mosaic of glass was made in 1988 by artist Catherine Yass (whose photographic work was nominated for the 2002 Turner Prize). Called "Path", it consists of seven curving blocks which trace a route through the grass. Catherine Yass says about it : "I made the work in response to the site. I thought a concrete pathway would have a relationship to the grave stones and made it a similar width and depth. I liked the idea that it reflected the sky into the ground of the graveyard and that clouds & trees etc would give movement to something so still and solemn." The sculpture is on the north-western side of the cemetry, quite close to the main driveway from the gates on Rosary Road. The grass around it may be quite long, as the cemetry is managed as a wildlife habitat. Catherine Yass's photographs can be seen at asprey jacques |
