Gaudi's Casa Batllo, Barcelona This is the front of the Casa Batllo. Between 1904 and 1907, Gaudì radically altered - inside and out - this existing building on Barcelona's central Passieg de Gracia, giving it a new storey, organic balconies and this facade. The curved balustrades and skeletal uprights led to it being known as "the house of bones". Some authorities claim that Jujol was responsible for the glass, ceramic and faience covering to the building, but the evidence for this doesn't seem to be so clear. Certainly the Casa Batllo was a prelude to the Casa Mila (see Barcelona Gallery 3), to which Jujol also contributed extensively.
