In the classic "rags to riches" tale, made famous in the pantomime story, Dick Whittington became Lord Mayor of London. His arrival in London, with his cat, is shown in this tile panel near the Museum of London. He thought that the streets were paved with gold and silver (mosaic would have been more practical, of course).
