On the courtyard terrace above the Butchery Lane Roman Museum is this floor mosaic by Jane Muir. The motif is a classical Roman knot of interlocked loops, but the materials used - marble, stoneware and glass smalti - give it strong colours (particularly in the case of the turquoise) and a very modern feel. A small courtyard leading off this one has three matching guilloche panels set into the pavement (see the bottom of this page). |
